Author interview with Alice Rachel

What’s the hardest part of writing YA fiction?

YA is delicate to write because it needs to be fast-paced. The details need to be given without being overwhelming. Also, the intimate scenes can never go too far or be too detailed. Everything has to be implied. But such is the beauty of YA literature.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I didn’t. I just started writing and enjoyed it tremendously, so I just kept writing. When the book was done, I decided to edit it over and over again. And now, I’m about to publish it at last.

Have you found any clever ways to market your books to YA readers?

Having a platform on social media is essential. You can’t write for and about teenagers if you don’t know their needs. Also, my book characters have twitter accounts of their own. I’ve gotten readers that way too.

What YA books have had the greatest influence on your writing?

Probably “Ignite Me” by Tahereh Mafi, “Legend” by Marie Lu, and “Sweet Evil” by Wendy Higgins.

Author Bio: I originally come from France and moved to the USA to be with my husband. I love reading, writing, but also drawing. I foster three guinea pigs, and I’m obsessed with animals. My book “Under Ground” will be out by the end of October.
