Author interview with Zara Hoffman

What’s the hardest part of writing YA fiction?

Making it sound authentic. I started writing YA while I was still a young adult, but now that I’m older and my writing is more mature, I sometimes worry that I’ve lost my best asset in capturing the YA tone.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

When I was seven, but I didn’t write my first full-length story (90 manuscript-formatted pages) until I was eight years old.

Have you found any clever ways to market your books to YA readers?

Not quite sure. I’m friends with a lot of YA authors, so we do blog hops and interviews for each other on each other’s sites and that generates content for the internet, but other than that, I don’t do much “active marketing” since I’ve been busy with school and writing more stories.

What YA books have had the greatest influence on your writing?

The Giver, Harry Potter, the early Maximum Ride books (I think the end of the series got really bad), The Golden Compass, and the Percy Jackson & The Olympian books (none of the ones that came after)

Short Author Bio: Zara Hoffman is a teen author and has been writing since she was eight years old. She spends most of her time doing homework and writing new stories because if she didn’t her head would likely explode. When she isn’t wrapped up in projects, Zara can be found relaxing, listening to music, hanging out with friends and family, or playing with her dog Riley. She writes to share the crazy products of her imagination with the world and hopes that you find them as entertaining as she does. Her books are mainly for young adults or the young at heart. After all, growing up is over-rated. http://zarahoffman.com
