A Sneak Peek at a the Dead Sky Morning Book Trailer

DSM Shoot Day TwoHi everyone! My name is Karina Halle and I’m honored to be doing a guest post for the lovely Sarah and her readers at I’m Loving Books. I am the author of the ghost-hunting paranormal romance/horror series Experiment in Terror, here to talk to you today about book trailers (my goodness, I sound like a school teacher).

One of the more popular ways of marketing books these days is to go the cinematic route and create a book trailer. Like a movie trailer, a book trailer gives a visual advertisement and synopsis of sorts to a book, providing another way of reaching out to potential readers, especially if the video can go viral.

While most book trailers are fairly low budget and deal with simple graphics, readings by the author or interviews, a few stand out from the crowd by taking on a real movie-like feel. This is the route I’ve decided to take for the book trailer for my third book, Dead Sky Morning.

Now, I did do trailers for the first two books in the Experiment in Terror series. Both were done in an impulsive, zero budget, learn-as-you-go type method and I’m quite happy with them. But for the third book, I really wanted to go all out and make something REALLY special.

Dead Sky Morning is a pivotal book in the series. It’s scarier, gorier, and yes, sexier, than Darkhouse or Red Fox. It takes the beloved ghost hunters Perry Palomino and Dex Foray and places them on a haunted (and isolated) island that used to be a decrepit leper colony at the turn of the century. It takes their uneasy friendship and burgeoning feelings for each other and pushes them out of their comfort zone, until their relationship, and their sanity, is on the verge of self-destruct.

Of course, being an indie author, I don’t have the resources or budget to compete with the big publishing houses. But with the help of director Kelly St-Laurent, DOP and editor Mollie Caselli, my actors Talar Kaladjian, Scott Mackenzie and Bret Taylor, and gaffer/lighting/PA Alex St-Laurent (who all happen to be awesome friends of mine), we managed to put together something that was pretty damn cool and a hell of a lot of fun to shoot.

Dead Sky Morning will be published on October 13th and has been described by readers and reviewers alike as “terrifying”, “passionate”, “funny”, “romantic”, “eerie” and “enthralling”. It’ll be available in paperback and e-format and you can find out more information about it through GoodReads. You can also buy the first book in the series, Darkhouse, for just 99 cents at Amazon and Smashwords.

I thought for I’m Loving Books I’d share with you some exclusive stills from the upcoming trailer, as well as give you the opportunity to win all three e-books in the series, including the yet-to-be-released Dead Sky Morning. Just use the form below and you’ll be entered, with the books going out to two winners. Good luck!
