Books That Leave An Impression On You…Later On

Books That Leave An Impression On You…Later On

I was just looking through some of my books on Goodreads and thinking about books I’ve read, when I thought of something.

Have you ever read a book that, at the time, you didn’t feel a strong connection towards, but as time goes by you find yourself thinking about it a lot?

I was thinking about some books that I’ve rated three or three-and-a-half stars in the past, and it’s funny because some of these books didn’t do much for me at the time, or even right after I was done reading them, but they are some of the books I find my mind wandering towards most from time to time.

Some big examples, for me, would be the classics, like 1984 and Jane Eyre. Both of those I rated three-and-a-half stars because while I loved a lot about them, I did find them to be slow (like a lot of the classics in my opinion). But…they are two books that I look back on and really and truly appreciate and almost “miss” like an old friend.

It’s weird. I don’t know why some books would stick with me like that after the fact, but not during.

Another, more modern one is the Thirst series by Christopher Pike (a.k.a. The Last Vampire). I read those last year or so (and the latest one a little while ago) and at the time, they were okay. I rated them about three stars each. But, I find myself thinking about Alyssa and her adventures from time to time.

The strangest thing about all of this is that a lot of the four and five star books I’ve rated (not all), I don’t find myself thinking back on too much. I try to understand this, and the only thing I can think maybe is going on, is that in the moment when I’m all hyped up and the book has gotten me charged, I give them a higher rating. But the subject matters and the issues within the book aren’t ones that are very meaningful to me.

Of course there are exceptions to that little rule. The Hunger Games and Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma being the biggest. I often find myself thinking about those books, and I gave them very solid five stars.

But anyways, I know I’m babbling.

My question for you guys is do you ever find that some books you’ve rated lower in the past, still seem to stick with you later on? Or am I the only one who this happens to? lol
