Wulf is an ancient Viking warrior with a useful but extremely aggravating power-amnesia. No one who meets him in person can remember him 5 minutes later. It makes it easy to have one-night stands, but hard to have a meaningful relationship, and without true love he can never regain his soul. When he finally meets Cassandra, the one woman who can remember him, she turns out to be the princess of the cursed race he’s sworn to hunt-and forbidden to him. The two of them must face ancient curses, prophecies, and the direct meddling of the Greek gods to find true happiness at last.
My Review:
As with all the Dark-Hunter novels I’ve read so far, I really enjoyed this one. Sherrilyn Kenyon has a great writing style and she just knows what us PNR fans love! However, I didn’t like this one as much as the first 3 in the series. The main thing was I just didn’t really feel like we got to know Wulf all the much. With the others, we got a good feel of their past, and while we got to know some of Wulf’s past, I felt like we could’ve known more.
But that’s not to say I didn’t like the book. I did very much enjoy it. What I loved most about this one is that we get an exclusive look into the lives of Daimons (the villains in this world). This book really paints the Apollites in an entirely different light and it makes you understand and really sympathize with their situation.
In case you haven’t read any of the books in this series, basically Apollites are cursed to only live 27 years of their life. On their 27th birthday, they will die an agonizing death unless they choose to go Daimon (rogue) and suck the souls out of humans in order to live a longer life. While this sounds absolutely terrible, this book allows you to understand what that’s like and really take a step back and look at the bigger picture. That would be a hard thing to deal with, and I can’t imagine the right choice being easy.
Cassandra I liked as well as Wulf. I thought they were a very sweet couple, and I like that Kenyon has started to step out of the box with her heroines in order to introduce characters that aren’t human. I think this makes it more interesting. With the Dark-Hunters being around as long as they have, I think it’s more likely that some of them would end up with women who aren’t human, so I liked that.
Overall, another great Dark-Hunter novel. Certainly not my favorite, but still a really good and solid PNR. I love the mystery surrounding this world and Ash. Despite getting a new love story from beginning to end in each book, we also get a larger picture story going on and I loved that. I also loved that we got to see our favorite characters from the previous books in this one as well (other than Ash of course). So if you’re a PNR fan and you haven’t picked up this series yet then definitely do so. I think you’ll really like them!
