Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, ReganCooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he’s about to become a father.
Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he’s ever wanted-a family.
My Review:
After being pretty unimpressed with the first couple of books in the Lords of Deliverance series I was pretty set on not continuing. However, after hearing about Reaver’s upcoming book I knew I had to jump back on the wagon. Like many others, I’ve been absolutely craving a book for him since I first met him in the Demonica series, so I figured I’d come back to the series for the last couple of books before his comes out.
But, I’m happy to say that Lethal Rider really took me by surprise. I just wasn’t expecting to like it all that much after not enjoying the first two books in the series, so I’m really happy to say that I did really love this one.
It’s been far too long since I’ve read the first couple of books to pinpoint exactly what it is that’s different about this book. But I’d probably say it’s just that I didn’t feel the romance as much in the first couple of books, especially Limos’ book, Immortal Rider. But in this one I really felt that Thanatos and Regan liked each other from the beginning, despite getting off to a very un-trustworthy start.
The one thing that could’ve put a hindrance on this story is that Regan is pregnant from page one (as you’ll see in the synopsis). I know Ione likes to write more steamy romances, and I wasn’t too sure I’d be comfortable with that given the circumstances. But Ione kept it pretty romantic between her and Thanatos without things getting really awkward (in my opinion). So I think she approached the situation respectfully and tastefully.
Aside from the romance, the over-arching story got even more interesting in this one with the impending apocalypse and the world seeming like it’s busting apart at the seams. It really seems like at this point that even if all the horsemen end up on the good side of the war, it’s going to be very hard (if not impossible) for the world to go back to the way it was ever again.
So overall I did really enjoy this and I actually can’t wait to read Rogue Rider now. I have no doubt that Ione will manage to get me to love Reseph despite the things he’s done in the past.
As a side note, I have a prediction (may or may not contain spoilers depending on if I’m right or not):
I have a feeling that Reaver IS Yenrieth. So many clues point to that being the case what with Harvester’s pre-Fallen name (if you’ve read the short story in the LoD Compendium you’ll know what I mean), and he’s a battle angel like Yenrieth. It would make SO MUCH SENSE! (but don’t tell me if I’m right or wrong if you already know! lol) Just had to put that out there. We’ll see if I’m right or not…
