My Review:
My friend Suzanne from over at Under the Covers has been bugging encouraging me to start this series for forever! It’s not like I haven’t wanted to. It’s just been one of those things that got pushed to the bottom of my list by all the pretty new books that were plastered everywhere I looked. But, I finally took the plunge and read the first in the series, and I’m so glad I did!
My absolute favorite part of this book is Kate. She’s a fantastic heroine. She’s strong, yet not too full of herself. She’s sarcastic and funny and overall I just like this chick! It’s truly refreshing for me to say that because in a lot of PNR and UF, the hero makes the books for me. But not here. I liked Curran in this book, but we don’t get to know him that well yet. I’m sure we will in the later books and I’m sure I’ll come to be mega fangirl over him, but for now it’s all about Kate.
The story itself I also found to be pretty entertaining and solid. I totally thought I had the ending all cooked up, but I was wrong, which I’m happy about. I hate it when I can predict what will happen, and I so did not here.
The main thing that did bug me though was that there seemed to be a lot of names floating around and I had to kind of think back to who was who. That got a bit confusing at times, but once I was in the flow of the book, it was alright. I also was kind of confused by some things in the world. For example, the fact that some people are riding horses down the freeway right alongside Jeeps. I did not understand that at all and couldn’t picture it looking right. I also couldn’t really picture the whole riding the ley line thing in general.
But overall, I’m very happy I finally started this series. I hear this is the weakest book in the bunch. If that’s the case then I’m looking forward to seeing how awesome the next books are, because I really liked this one!
