Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.
Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.
So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price . . .
My Review:
The more I immerse myself into the Kate Daniels world, the more I love! This is seriously an Urban Fantasy series you can really get behind. The characters are awesome, the adventures are top notch, and the world is so interesting.
In this book Kate has seemingly the biggest mission of all. I won’t give it away because a good chunk of the beginning of the book is discovering what the actual threat is. But let me say that’s it’s a doozy! So big in fact, that most of the characters and groups (friends and even some enemies) from all the previous books have to come together in order to stand a chance at beating it. This is probably what I loved most about the book. It has lots of action, but I love the feeling of unity we get from all of Kate’s friends and semi-foes. Definitely lots of fun.
Then of course, my other favorite part of the book is that Kate and Curran or finally together throughout the whole book! This makes me so happy. I love them together. Their relationship is done really well. Sometimes it can feel a bit unrealistic when you read about relationship after relationship that is so happy go-lucky with no conflict after they’ve finally admitted their feelings for each other. But of course, in real relationships you still butt heads with the one you love every so often and (at least in my experience) play teasing is ever-present. What I love about Kate and Curran is that they have this. Their relationship feels real and I just love them together. Curran is so sweet despite his broody possessiveness.
I also want to quickly note that the lack of sarcastic humor in Magic Bleeds is definitely back in this one. That was really good to see because I greatly missed that. Also what’s up with the Andrea/Raphael situation? I’m not sure I like that, but perhaps it has to do with Andrea getting her own book. I’m definitely more intrigued to read her book to see what’s going on and what’s going to happen with her love life.
Overall, another great Kate Daniels novel. Magic Strikes is still my favorite from the series so far, but this one easily makes second place. Can’t wait for the next one! Although I am looking forward to Andrea’s book, I’m so sad we have to wait so long for Kate’s next book! *sniff*
