Dear Reader,
Life is great for me. I have my chicory coffee, my warm beignets, and my best friend on the cell phone. Once the sun goes down, I am the baddest thing prowling the night: I command the elements, and I know no fear. For centuries, I’ve protected the innocent and watched over the mankind, making sure they are safe in a world where nothing is ever certain. All I want in return is a hot babe in a red dress, who wants nothing more from me then one night.Instead, I get a runaway Mardi Gras float that tries to turn me into roadkill and a beautiful woman who saves my life but can’t remember where she put my pants. Flamboyant and extravagant, Sunshine Runningwolf should be the perfect woman for me. She wants nothing past tonight, no ties, no long-term commitments.
But every time I look at her, I start yearning for dreams that I buried centuries ago. With her unconventional ways and ability to baffle me, Sunshine is the one person I find myself needing. But for me to love her would mean her death. I am cursed never to know peace or happiness-not so long as my enemy waits in the night to destroy us both.
–Talon of the Morrigantes
My Review:
Like every other night Talon is enjoying his chicory coffee and beignets at his favorite coffee shop in New Orleans. Or at least he’s trying to, when he has to go after some Daimons who seem to be prowling after an unsuspecting woman. After fighting them and saving the woman he runs off to get away from her, in order to keep her questions and suspicions down. But what he doesn’t suspect is to be run over by a Mardi Gras float. After passing out, Sunshine takes him to her loft to let him sleep it off. After all, he did saver her life from a bunch of muggers so she owed him that much at least. What neither of them suspect is the feelings that overtake them and threaten not only Talon’s life as a Dark-Hunter, but Sunshine’s life as well.
This was fantastic! I am so loving this series. I only wish I had discovered it sooner. I really liked both Talon and Sunshine. They had great chemistry together and Talon is yumm-ay! Although some of the same concepts (what happens when a Dark-Hunter falls in love and wants to stay with her) exist in this one as with the last book, there were still some surprises. Aside from Talon and Sunshine’s story, there are also big surprises in store for other Dark-Hunters as well. Some of the things that happened at the end of this book I didn’t suspect at all and were huge surprises for me.
Speaking of other Dark-Hunters, we get to meet a lot of new characters in this one too and I’m so excited for their books. Among the new characters, the ones who stand out to me are Zarek, Valerius, Vane (Were-Hunter), and Fang (Were-Hunter). I absolutely cannot wait for Zarek’s book especially and I’m so glad that it’s next. He kind of reminds me of Zsadist from Black Dagger Brotherhood, although I suppose it would be the other way around since Zarek’s book came out before Zsadist’s. But either way, Zsadist is my favorite BDB hero so I’m really excited to read about Zarek! This book also got my more psyched about Acheron’s book, which is only like, 13 books away! I don’t know how I will wait that long to hear his whole story. *sigh*
But overall, this is a fantastic book and a great series so far. Kenyon manages to create a sexy paranormal romance with hero’s to drool over, heroines you’ll love, and humor to boot! I’m always a happy reader when I see my favorite books include a bit of humor, and this series certainly has that. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book and hearing about my dark, sexy, and oh-so-yummy Zarek.
