Q/A with YA Author Terri Luckey

What’s the hardest part about writing YA lit?:

The hardest part about any writing is keeping at it, even on days when it’s not going well. You have no one but yourself to make sure you stay on track. The thing I absolutely strive for it to make my books unforgettable and my characters friends you don’t want to leave.

When exactly did you know you wanted to be a writer?:

I loved to read growing up and have always thought I’d like to write books.

Have you found any clever ways to market your books to YA readers?:

I like to give out bookmarks when I talk to people about my books. When they see the picture of the ruins and the wolf, I explain wars destroyed the world in the Kayndo series and people go back to living in a tribal culture so my characters live with wolves in a clan.

What YA books have had the biggest influence on your writing?:

I don’t think there are only a few books that  have influenced my writing, but many. Other authors and readers have compared my Kayndo series to Jean Auel’s clan of the cave bear series, Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar books, Anne McCaffrey’s Pern series, and Andre Norton’s books.
Short author bio: I currently reside in Redfield, Arkansas with my husband and dog, a border collie, Jazzy. I’ve lived in several other states including Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, Texas, Florida, and Arizona, but no matter where I go, books are a constant friend.

I graduated in Journalism with honors. My experience includes writing in the newspapers, radio, and television industries. I use my journalism experience to research my books and make my fantasy world more realistic.
