Midnight Sun Review: Edward Cullen Cannot Stop Thinking
Retelling Twilight from Edward’s perspective makes every school hallway a wall of mental noise. Bella is the one silence he cannot penetrate, and his fascination tangles immediately with the danger her blood presents.
The Cullen material is the reward. Alice’s visions, Jasper’s emotional power, and the family’s rescue work all become clearer, while Edward proves funnier than Bella realizes.
The Same Romance Through a Much Darker Window
The new viewpoint does not fix the stalking or the huge power imbalance. Hearing Edward rationalize his surveillance makes those problems harder to dismiss, and 658 pages of repeated self-reproach is exhausting.
The Verdict
Midnight Sun earns 3.5 out of 5. The Cullen material is the reward. The new viewpoint does not fix the stalking or the huge power imbalance.
Tropes
Who should read this: Committed Twilight readers who want Cullen family detail and a more openly troubling view of the central romance.
