Taking up right where Waterfall left off, Cascade hurls Gabi back into the fourteenth century where her knight in shining armor (literally), Marcello is waiting for her. It’s been merely a few minutes for Gabi, whereas it has been a bit longer for Marcello. So going back she finds a few things have changed quite a bit, but what about Marcello? Does he still love her like she loves him and can they finally be together?
This was a great followup to Waterfall. Just as strong as the first one, it’s not lacking for anything. Despite the hardships that Gabi, her friends, and family have to face, it sure is exciting to read about! Cascade is just as action packed, with all the gushy romance in tact (but not too gushy for those who aren’t fans of that).
I really enjoyed this one, I don’t want to give too much away for those who haven’t read it, but what I can say is that the same war that was going on between states in Waterfall is still the primary conflict, but with some surprise enemies and even some surprise allies. These books are all about the clinking armor, sword fights, defending the castle, and all that sort of good stuff we love about fourteenth century stories.
I honestly cannot think of anything that I didn’t like. I enjoy Gabi’s voice. I think she’s very levelheaded, and even when she does jump into situations that are bound to prove troublesome, I can appreciate why she does what she does and admire her for her bravery. I really like all of the characters (well, the ones we’re suppose to like at least lol), and the story was very captivating.
Overall, Cascade has everything you could want in a book. A solid storyline that, while perhaps not having a certain direction per se definitely keeps you on your toes, characters that are easy to love and follow along with, a sigh-worthy male lead who is everything you ever dreamed your knight in shining armor could be, and of course the twists and turns that keep you craving more by the turn of the last page. Oh and let’s not forget, I always seem to be a sucker for historicals with a time-travel twist.
