Aisling Grey is back-and in more trouble than ever. She thought being a courier would be easy. It’s not. She thought being a Guardian would come naturally. It doesn’t. She thought she could get out of being a wyvern’s mate. She can’t. And she never thought she’d be irresistible to men. But she is.
My Review:

Fire Me Up is an extremely fun and light-hearted sequel to You Slay Me. It starts off with Aisling heading to Budapest for a double dose of  fun: to deliver another artifact for her courier job, and to attend a convention for Guardians in the hopes of acquiring an internship as a Guardian with a mentor. What she doesn’t expect is to find Drake — the dragon who she can’t seem to shake — in her very hotel. Is it a coincidence or will he just not let her get away so easily?

This was so fun. I really needed this kind of book at the time I read it. Aisling’s antics are action-packed and adventurous while remaining fun and quirky. Of course a lot of the humor is in part due to Jim, her lovable yet sassy demon in the form of a huge talking dog. I did miss him a little bit because he’s absent for a portion of the book. But I’m happy to say that even without him in those parts the book was still really good. I do think he’s absolutely necessary to the series though, but I was happily surprised that Asiling held her own as a character without his witty banter by her side.

The relationship between Aisling and Drake is fun as well, albeit a little strenuous at times. It feels like MacAlister tries a little too hard to create rifts between them in order to keep the drama up, but it’s still fun to read about them nonetheless. I think Asiling caves into her desire for Drake a little too easily sometimes given her resolve at the beginning of the book, but I’m not going to complain too much because their interactions are always entertaining.

Fire Me Up and the Aisling Grey series as a whole definitely isn’t deep and the Otherworld is a little silly at times (i.e. conferences for factions in the Otherworld complete with meet-and-greet banquets and seminars on torturing and the like). But if you’re looking for something light and laugh-out-loud funny then you’re looking in the right place. It’s kind of like Chick Lit meets Urban Fantasy.
