Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they’re enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But should people learn about the Raves-mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle-the citizens will start sharpening their stakes. So now it’s up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn’t want peace between them-someone with an ancient grudge…
My Review:

Even though Merit hasn’t been a vampire (or Sentinel of Cadogan House) for very long, she’s had to put out her fair share of fires already. But with the big bad they just got through handling being released, and the vampire houses inadvertently being pushed more and more into the limelight, she still has lots of work on her hands. Not to mention her relationship with Morgan is on the rocks, and the unwanted sexual tension between her and Ethan doesn’t seem to be dampening any, only getting worse.

I gotta say that I really like Merit. She’s got, as Celina would say, moxie. She’s a tough chick. But at the same time she’s a real chick with real problems and I can relate to her pretty easily. Of course, I don’t have two sexy vampires pining for me, not to mention the stresses of being a newbie vampire. But still, her personality makes her easy to love. Plus I can definitely understand her love of libraries. :)

In Friday Night Bites, we get to step out into the Chicagoland Vampires world a little bit and we get a glimpse at the other creatures of the night. I won’t get too much into what I mean by that. But it’s nice to see the world sort of branching out and allowing us to see what other issues are going on with the other supernaturals. Not only that, but I like that we also have a continuing villain. I really like it when urban fantasies have a connecting thread in that area because I feel like it adds a layer to the world. Not every villain can be defeated in one go, so I like the idea of seeing a bit of the same conflict still going on in the midst of everything else.

I do feel like something is missing from these books still but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I think it might be that the sexual tension between Merit and Ethan is already making me crazy! It’s only book two, but I already want them to be together. I do like Morgan though. But, I just feel like Ethan is the one for Merit and it’s just going to take time for her (and him) to see that. I like that though. I like it when the relationship is more gradual and spans multiple books. But, it’s also frustrating when you just want them to be together! :) Sorry to all the Morgan fans, but I’m definitely Ethan all the way! lol

Overall, I’m really liking this series. It’s not my favorite because I still feel like we need some kind of bigger conflicts or kind of just more of a sense of urgency during said conflicts, if you know what I mean. I hope that the ongoing villain will create that in the future books though. We’ll see. I definitely can’t wait to see what happens next. These are a fun books to dive into, and while they do have some mystery and action, they’re also kind of a light read at the same time.
