In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages. The city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Now back in the Brotherhood – and unrecognisable as the vampire leader he once was – Tohrment is physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair. When he begins to see his beloved in his dreams – trapped in a cold, isolating netherworld – Tohr turns to a self-serving fallen angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost. When he’s told he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed . . .Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. Against the backdrop of the raging war with the lessers, and with a new clan of vampires vying for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between the buried past, and a very hot, passion-filled future . . . but can his heart let go and set all of them free?
My Review:

Oh Thor. Poor sweet broken Thor. For too long Thor has grieved his Welssie. While yes, I am like other BDB fans looking forward to Qhuay finally getting a book. I also thought it was about darn time for poor Thor, who got pushed to the background for a good seven books — well before Blay and Qhuinn were even blips on Ward’s radar.

So anyways, I’m happy he finally got his book. What’s nice about this is that it spans about a year so Thor’s recovery process was done extremely well and realistically. At times though I felt terrible for No’One (I know, dumb name). She had to go through so much being with Thor through his recovery process, but in the end she was exactly what he needed to move on and while it was definitely a bumpy road getting there, it was well worth it in the end.

I love this series. It’s one of my top two favorite PNRs and I doubt that will ever change. But, the thing is I’m not adoring this new format that started about at John’s book, Lover Mine. We get so many POVs and side stories jam packed into one book that it greatly takes away from the main love story. But at the same time I think in this book Ward is getting the hang of the new format because it didn’t seem to take as much away form their story as it did in the last book especially, Lover Unleashed.

So I have a love/hate relationship with the new-ish format. It’s bad because it can make the books feel busy, overly-long, and take away from the couple being featured. But it also is good because it creates a more layered and dynamic world, and it gets me excited about potential love matches and things coming up in the series. I also am kind of enjoying the previous couples getting a little bit of a story on the side too. In this one John and Xhex get some page time and while I thought the issues they were struggling with were a little silly, I could see how it would be something that they would have to both come to terms with.

Overall, this is still an amazing series. Ward is a genius PNR writer. She knows what we love and she delivers with every page. I’m so excited about a few potential love matches (aside from Qhuay) so I’ll be curious to see who will come after their book. It could be a few different people but I think I have a pretty good idea of who it’ll be…and it should make things pretty darn interesting. :) But as for Qhuay’s book…let’s just hope she doesn’t skimp on the make-up sex. ;)
