Kev Merripen has longed for the beautiful, well-bred Winnifred Hathaway ever since her family rescued him from the brink of death when he was just a boy. But this handsome Gypsy is a man of mysterious origins—and he fears that the darkness of his past could crush delicate, luminous Win. So Kev refuses to submit to temptation…and before long Win is torn from him by a devastating twist of fate. Then, Win returns to England…only to find that Kev has hardened into a man who will deny love at all costs. Meantime, an attractive, seductive suitor has set his sights on Win. It’s now or never for Kev to make his move. But first, he must confront a dangerous secret about his destiny—or risk losing the only woman he has lived for…
My Review:

I’m so glad I picked this one for my December Random Reads because I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure how much I would like it because although I did like the first one in the series, I was a bit discouraged that I didn’t seem to LOVE it like everyone else seemed to. But I guess I just needed a good nearly year-long break from the series because I definitely really liked this one.

Win and Merripen (a.k.a. Kev) have always had feelings for each other. But neither of them have brought those feelings to light because of a lot of different reasons. One of them being that Win has been very sick for many years and the focus has always been to get her better. After she goes off to a specialist and then returns though, their long burning feelings for each other boil over.

I really loved both Win and Kev. Although Kev annoyed me sometimes with his “I’m not good enough for her” thoughts, I still couldn’t help but love him. When you strip away his toughened exterior, he’s such a sweetheart and really nothing but love. Win is definitely perfect for him. She’s pretty much opposite in every way — light to his dark, sweet to his broodiness, petite to his strength. Really everything is opposite, but in this case opposites definitely attract because he needs what she has to offer and vice versa for Win.

One thing I thought was kind of consistent in terms of things I didn’t like was that the story was a little bit slow and drawn out it seemed. There were moments well before the ending when I thought the story could’ve wrapped up and ended quite nicely. But in the end, I think it worked out and if you’re in the mood for a slower-paced more laid back type of book then that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Overall, definitely happy I picked this one up. I really enjoyed it and despite my thoughts of giving up on the series (before reading this), this has renewed my faith. I will for sure be continuing the series. I can’t wait for Leo’s book the most, gotta love him! :) Oh, and on a side note. If you’re thinking about reading this series, I’d recommend reading The Wallflowers series first because there are lots of appearances of characters from those books and so I wish I would’ve read those first so I could appreciate them more.
