In 1897 England, 16-year-old Finley Jayne is convinced she’s a freak. No normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch. Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she’s special . . . that she’s one of “them.”
My Review:

I haven’t read too many Steampunk novels. Really only the Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. But this is one that’s been on my to-read list since before it came out. Mainly because I just couldn’t pass up the gorgeous cover. But it’s been pushed down the reading pile again and again. When I received an ARC for The Girl in the Clockwork Collar, I decided to finally pick this one up.

I definitely enjoyed it and it has a lot of intrigue and cute boys. It reminded me quite a bit of Clockwork Angel. Not enough that it seemed like a copycat storyline, but enough where people who enjoyed that would probably really like this. Not just because of them being the same genre, but because the storylines are actually kind of similar.

But it was still unique enough that I enjoyed it. The characters were what I liked the most. Griffin and Jack, the two love interests, are both seriously swoonworthy. Finley is extremely strong (literally as well) and it was refreshing to read about a heroine who really doesn’t need to be rescued but doesn’t get all flustered when she is. So the characters really made this. I also liked that we got the point of views from most of the characters as opposed to just Finley, that was a nice change from the usual.

As far as the storyline I enjoyed it but because it seemed a lot like Clockwork Angel, I also was a little bored by it. I think because I just figured out what would happen. But there were still a few parts that had me flipping the pages as fast as possible because they were really good.

Overall I enjoyed this but the plot could’ve been a bit less predictable. I am interested in the characters themselves though and since I have the next book on hand I will definitely be reading on. We’ll see where they take the story as the series continues.
