As with all the previous River of Time books, Torrent is an action-packed adventure ride through time. I really love these books, they make me really want to read more books about the 14th century with the knights and sword fights and all that fun stuff.
In this book Gabi returns to Marcello with her family finally complete. She’s ready to stay there forever, but first she has to convince the rest of her family that it’s what they want as well. But before she has time to breath, she’s swooped up in another attack against her and now she has to once again escape a fate she is not ready to lay down for.
You would think that with all the captures and such it might get repetitive, but Bergren really knows how to capture your attention. Every one of these books has kept me on the edge turning the pages as quickly as possible. The romance between Gabi and Marcello is sweet and classically romantic. But these books are so much more than that too. I honestly couldn’t tell you if they’re historically accurate or not because I really don’t know much about history, but I can tell you that they are a lot of fun. By the end of each of these books I seem to let out a breath I didn’t really realize I was holding practically the whole time.
The one thing I was a bit disappointed by was that the end just seemed a little too easy given all that they’ve been through. I suppose it wasn’t easy, but it just felt like there should’ve been more of a standoff than there was. It also felt like there were some loose ends with Greco’s story, but thankfully that’s what the upcoming short, Bourne, is about, so I can’t wait to read that here soon.
Overall this is seriously a great series. I really can’t recommend it enough if you like action-packed stories with lots of adventure and just a touch of romance. It really is the perfect blend.
