Best book cover designs for YA scifi dystopia

As much as I talk about the importance of book cover design (fitting in, not standing out) sometimes I don’t take my own advice… until my books aren’t selling as well as they should be, then I update them with something more commercial. Scifi dystopian books are usually action/plot based, and set in a post-apocalyptic future; the world and conflict should be on a grand scale – the smaller the character, the more epic the story. Colors for post-apocalyptic books are usually red or yellow (nuclear wasteland). For YA, however, they often need more color. They need a destroyed city or landscape, a protagonist holding a weapon, and long bold sans serif fonts.

Here are some of my favorites – included is my updated cover for Prescient, which fits in with these other covers much better now than it did before.
