Summary:
4.5
I picked this book up at the library and couldn’t wait to dig in. Tiger’s Curse is one of, if not my top favorite series and I was super excited to enter another one of Colleen Houck’s exciting worlds. I wasn’t disappointed.
Lily Young is a girl just going through the paces, living her life under the iron thumb of her parents and their expectations. She’s intelligent and witty, but lives in a solitary world where she has to put on a facade to be who they think she should be. Yes, she is privileged and wealthy, but those things come with a price. She’s unable to live her life the way she wants. She’s trapped.
Enter Amon, a thousands-year-old gorgeous reincarnation of an Egyptian god, and suddenly her life spins out of control. She’s whisked away on an adventure of epic proportions that has dire repercussions. He needs her to complete his mission. He doesn’t give her much of a choice but to come with him, lest the world be overtaken by darkness and everyone in it cease to exist- they would all be erased.
I loved this book. It was entertaining, thought provoking, and emotional. The writing and story-telling were very reminiscent of Tiger’s Curse, which as I mentioned before, is at the top of my list. Lily found herself over the course of this adventure. She discovered that she possessed several strong character traits: loyalty, self-respect, trustworthiness, courage. Amon was incredibly swoon-worthy in his care of her, his level of devotion and seeing to her needs before his own. His brothers were just as interesting and even more likable, so I can’t wait to read more about them in the next installment.
Is it historically accurate? I don’t know. Do I care? Absolutely not. This book did it’s job, whisking me into another time and place, leaving me on the edge of my seat and hungry for more. My thanks to the author for taking me on this amazing journey.
