MacKayla Lane’s ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland’s shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets. In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh-a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V’lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious. For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them…
My Review:

A fantastic read! Gripping and extremely entertaining. This was a very hard book to put down!

After reading Darkfever, I was very excited for this book. Even though Darkfever didn’t leave off with a cliffhanger, it still had me wanting to know more. This is one series where there is question after question and mystery after mystery, that sort of intermingle within the story itself and make it hard to not want to jump right into the next book. I’m actually kind of glad that I didn’t end up starting this until the series was over because now I’ll only have to wait long enough for my hold to come in at the library to read the next one!

In this installment, Mac and Barrons are still on the lookout for the Sinsar Dubh, and other Dark Hallows. It’s actually kind of hard to get into a summary of the book without spoiling anything. So far, just from the first two books, there isn’t really an individual story per book. It’s the same ongoing story throughout. While some Urban Fantasy novels keep the same characters, but tell pretty much an individual story each book, this is essentially one long book. I actually really love that about this. It’s so addicting!

Now, I want to say something about Barrons. In the first book I didn’t really like him at all. I found him to be just a jerk and couldn’t really see the appeal. However, after reading this book I am definitely starting to see why almost everyone loves him. He’s very mysterious even though he’s a main character, and I think that’s one of the things that makes him so intriguing. He can still be a jackass — as Mac would say — but you can still tell in certain moments that he cares for Mac in ways he probably hasn’t even admitted to himself. So I’m really looking forward to seeing into his character little bits at a time as the story goes on. My theory on him has changed a bit since the last book. I’ll put it here for reference but definitely don’t read behind the upcoming spoiler tag if you haven’t already read this and Darkfever already. This is just my theory!

After Darkfever I was predicting that he was a vampire. Which, he could very well be. But, after the phone call she has with Ryodan, and The Lord Master just walking away from him as though he was scared of Barrons, I think he might be something more. Perhaps some kind of god even. I don’t know for sure. But those are two of my theories.

Overall, this is a top notch Urban Fantasy. I love Mac, I’m growing to like Barrons, and I’m intrigued by the sexual tension between the two. Not only that, I’m curious to see what will happen in the end and how they will get there. If you love Urban Fantasy, or anything Paranormal, I’d definitely recommend reading this series.
