If You Still Haven’t Read Fourth Wing, You Might Be the Only One Left

(You’re either a dragon girlie or you’re not.)

At this point, Fourth Wing has reached pandemic-level virality. It’s everywhere—your best friend’s bookshelf, your FYP, that annoying coworker who only reads one book a year but suddenly has a hot take about dragon academia.

Rebecca Yarros’ book has done something few fantasy books ever do: it crossed the BookTok threshold and went fully mainstream. Even your mom is considering reading it. Your YA-hating, fantasy-avoiding, “I only read serious literature” mom. That’s power.

But let’s be real: if you still haven’t read Fourth Wing, you might be the only one left.

What Is Fourth Wing? (In Case You Just Woke Up From a Coma)

Here’s the crash course:

  • Dragons.
  • A deadly war college.
  • Romance that will make you rethink all your past relationship decisions.
  • Enemies-to-lovers (because of course).
  • Main character Violet, a physically weaker but wildly smart protagonist who gets thrown into a brutal training program where people literally die.
  • Xaden Riorson, a love interest who has the emotional availability of a rock, but we love him anyway.
  • Dragons who have actual personalities and are the real stars of the book.

It’s like The Hunger Games meets How to Train Your Dragon, except way hotter, bloodier, and full of dark academia vibes.

Why Is Everyone Obsessed?

Because it’s unhinged and addictive in the way that only BookTok’s biggest hits are. The same way A Court of Thorns and Roses was suddenly everyone’s personality for six months straight, Fourth Wing took over every corner of the book world overnight.

Also:
✔ The prose is fast-paced and cinematic—no wading through 50 pages of worldbuilding.
✔ The romance has tension so thick you could cut it with a Valyrian steel dagger.
✔ You actually feel the stakes. Like, yes, there’s romance, but people also die. Brutally.

But… Is It Actually Good?

Look. That depends on what you want. If you’re looking for a literary masterpiece with dense prose and layered existential themes, go read Dostoevsky. Fourth Wing is not that.

But if you want:
🔥 A page-turner you won’t put down
🔥 Delicious angst and unhinged chemistry
🔥 A fantasy world that actually feels fun
🔥 Dragons that talk back and don’t take any of your BS

Then, yeah, Fourth Wing is fantastic.

The Hype Is Real—But Are You Ready?

If you haven’t read Fourth Wing yet, you have two options:

  1. Cave to peer pressure and read it immediately.
  2. Become the last person on Earth who hasn’t read it and live in isolation.

If you choose option one, congrats. You’re about to enter your dragon era. Your next step? Iron Flame. Because once you finish Fourth Wing, you’re not getting off this ride anytime soon.

So, what’s it gonna be? Are you reading it, or are you resisting the inevitable? (Spoiler: You’re reading it.)
