Her breathless kiss haunts him…
Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed — until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.
His slow, hot touch is irresistible…
Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It’s rumored that no one can tempt Bowen’s hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.
No deed is too wicked for her seduction…
If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul — or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?
My Review:
I freakin’ LOVE Bowe! He is my all time favorite character from this series, and probably one of my favorites from any series. He is just so adorable and loving and loyal, I can’t get enough of him. He’s also quite yum-yum-yummy. At the very end, where he whispers to Mari when she’s looking in the mirror, “Ask it who Bowe loves” as he’s holding her I thought I would melt. He is just too cute!
Anyways, this is without a doubt my favorite book of the series so far. Unlike some of the books in this series where you feel like the male is definitely in love with the female, but she is really not into him until close to the end, you really FEEL like both Mari and Bowe are into each other this whole book. Although they have some bumps to overcome, they are attracted to each other from the get-go and the sexual tension is so thick you could cut through it.
Their relationship is so real. They have those cute flirting type of arguments, they laugh together, they have conversations just to get to know each other, they care for each other. Overall, I can honestly say they were made for each other.
I was also happy that this book wasn’t about another Valkyrie. Although they’re alright and humorous at times (I just love Nucking Futs Nix – “P.S. You still owe me $50 bucks”), it was good to hear about another kind of female who wasn’t so bitchy and defensive around males. Oh Mari had her moments, but it was more endearing I thought.
It was a bit of a shocker how it ended with Mariah and all, but it had to resolve somehow and I was actually impressed that it didn’t end how I figured it would end.
Overall, if I had to recommend ONE book from this series, I would definitely make it this one. Hell, if I had to recommended a book, period, this would be one of the books I would recommend. It’s certainly one of my favorites of the series, and a favorite in general. You just can’t help but love Mari and Bowe. Both characters alone are fantastic, and together they are phenomenal!
